The Custom Plum Company (CPC) is passionate about bringing a constant source of fresh stone fruit varieties to market. CPC works closely with Zaiger’s Inc Genetics, to ensure this continuous flow of material. From ranges of ‘ultra-late plums’, to red-fleshed varieties boasting high anti-oxidant levels, black plums with brilliant yellow flesh and even sweet and tangy Cherryplums. CPC offers a true point of difference and an exceptional eat every time.
Moving on from your everyday stone fruit varieties, Zaiger Genetics developed techniques to interbreed different stone fruit species. This results in what we now call Interspecific Varieties using natural pollination techniques to create products like Pluots, Plumcots, Cherryplums and Apriums. Marketers now have a unique selling point with varieties with exceptional flavour profiles and unique appearances.
The Zaigers are a third-generation family business producing varieties with exceptional flavour profiles and novel appearance since 1960. The Zaiger Breeding program is currently the largest of its kind globally, boasting over 250,000 conventional crosses of different Prunus species every single year.
The Custom Plum Company brings innovation to the stone fruit industry, positioned at the forefront of new varietal development. We provide a fully integrated approach to developing new stone fruit in South Africa, through the Zaiger Genetics breeding program since 2002. CPC is a joint partnership between Unlimited Group and Fresca Group, ultimately combining both companies’ material and technical/promotional strengths.
